Soccer, Ski, Snowboard, Basketball

The Manistee Recreation Association is currently accepting registrations for Traveling Spring Soccer, Ski & Snowboard Program and Men's Basketball.

Traveling Soccer is available for boys and girls grade 5 through grade 12.  Out of a 6 game season half of the games are played locally and the remainder are played between Ludington and Spring Lake.  Tournaments follow the regular season.  Registration forms must be turned in by mid February to be considered for team placement this spring.

Though the snow fall has been sparse the ski resorts are busy making snow when the temperatures allow.  The MRA Ski/Snowboard program will be traveling to Crystal Mt. on Friday evenings beginning January 11th.  Contact our office to sign up for package deals offered by Crystal Mt. including lift access, instruction and rental.  Our Dial-A-Ride bus is filling fast so contact us soon to guarantee your seat.  Our office will be closing December 21st  for the holiday season and reopening on January 7th.

We currently have 4 or 5 teams registered for our Men's Basketball League and welcome any other Manistee County teams that would like to participate.  Games will be played on Sunday afternoons at Portage Lake Covenant Bible Camp gymnasium beginning January 13th.  We will have 4 weeks of games and a one day tournament week five.  All players must be 21 or older and reside in Manistee County.

Family Fun Night at the Pool

The Manistee Recreation Association will be hosting a Family Night at the Paine Aquatic Center this Friday, November 9th from 6:00 to 7:30 PM.  Bring the family and have a splashing good time!
We are asking participants to bring a healthy canned/boxed food item or a personal care item to be donated to the Manistee Community Kitchen.  They in turn will distribute items to the area food pantries.

Swimming and Lifeguarding

Just because summer is over doesn't mean you have to pack away the bathing suits! Swim lesson opportunities are right around the corner and water workouts have begun.
 
Tot swim begins the first weekend in October for infants and toddlers 6 months of age through age 4.  Class meets on Saturday mornings for 4 weeks.  Cost $20.00.  Swim lessons and stroke development begin October 16 for children age 5 and above.  Lessons are held Tuesday and Thursday evenings for 4 weeks.  
Cost is $50.00.

Deep Water Aerobics is in session now - Monday and Wednesday evenings at 7:00 PM.  
Cost is $30.00 for 3 weeks.

We are looking to schedule an American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification class in the beginning of October.  
Cost is $140.00.

Soft Soccer Clinic

The Manistee Recreation Association will be offering a Soft Soccer Clinic for kids entering Kindergarten or kindergarten age August 9th & 10th from 5:30 to 6:30 PM held at Duffy Field.  This clinic offers beginning skills for the young soccer player and is a great jump start to our fall season.  Cost is $15.00 for participating residents and includes a soccer ball and tee shirt.  Call the MRA for registration details - 231-723-9274.

FREE Soccer Coaches Clinic

The Manistee Recreation Association and the Manistee Soccer Club will be hosting a FREE clinic for all interested in coaching soccer held this Tuesday, July 10th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Manistee High School practice field. The clinic is put on by Challenger Sports and the visiting coaches from the United  Kingdom.
Come and experience first hand how to organize a youth soccer practice and take part in demonstrations of core techniques and a wide selection of useful drills, practices and games that you, as coaches, can put to immediate use. 

Tot Swim

Our next session of Tot Swim is right around the corner.  Give your child that first experience in the water by joining our class.  This is designed for infants 6 months of age through age 4.  Classes meet on Saturday mornings for 4 weeks beginning July 7.  Class size is limited as we use the Therapy Pool at the Paine Aquatic Center.  Cost is $20.00 for the session.  Register at the MRA office located in the Briny Building.

Healthy Active Manistee - Celebrate fitness!

Thank you to all the folks who came out to run/walk the HAM 5K this past Saturday.  We had 53 runners enjoying a beautiful morning jog through the neighborhoods of Manistee.  Our overall winners were Jayleigh Shillinger with a time of 20:59 and Nick Veine with a time of 18:54.  Great job to everyone!

On Sunday we had 6 teams of doubles playing in the HAM Doubles Tennis Tournament.  Our participants endured 4 hours of play through wind and warm temperatures.  A great day was had by all.
