The MRA office will be closed during the holiday season, reopening Monday, January 3rd. Messages will be checked periodically. Our Ski/Snowboard program and Pee Wee Play will begin the week we return and Men's Basketball registration will be due on the 10th.

Pre-school Programs Coming Soon

Three programs will begin in early 2011 for pre-school aged children.
The MRA will be offering Pee Wee Play on Saturdays beginning January 8th and running for 4 weeks. The class will offer kids the opportunity to explore movement through manipulative play, balance and coordination activities and sports readiness skills.
Musikids will begin on Monday, January 17th and run for 6 weeks. This course introduces children to instrumental and lyrical music. Pre-schoolers experience playing several different instruments and moving and singing to their favorite songs.
February 5th begins our first session of Tot Swim meeting 4 weeks on Saturday mornings.

Class size is limited in all of these programs so we encourage early registration.

Men's Basketball League

Teams are now forming. Gather your buddies and sign up soon for league play to begin Sunday's in mid January. Players must be 21 years of age or older. Teams should consist of a range of age groups. Contact the MRA office for more information - 723-9274.

Jingle Bell Jog

Join in the festivities of Sleighbell Weekend and sign up for the Jingle Bell Jog. Registration forms are available at the MRA, Snyder's Shoes, and Manistee High School. The run is held on Saturday, December 4th and begins at Manistee Middle School at 10:00 AM. Don your Santa cap and start your day out with a brisk morning jog!

Winter Deep Water Aerobics

The MRA Deep Water Aerobics Class will begin again on Tuesday November 30th at 7:00pm. We will be discussing a possible change in time and our Holiday schedule on Tuesday.

Crystal Mountain Ski Swap

Are you interested in purchasing new or used ski or snowboard equipment? Then check out the Crystal Mountain Ski Swap from 9:00am - 4:00pm on Saturday October 30th. They will have a wide variety of equipment available for everyone in the family.

Winter Skiing and Snowboarding

Start signing up now for the MRA Skiing and Snowboarding program this winter at Crystal Mountain. We will be going on Friday nights this year. Costs will vary depending on rentals needed and transportation. Please call or stop by the MRA office for more information! We'll see you on the slopes!

Aquatic Programs

The MRA is offering Tot Swim for infants 6 months of age through age 4 on Saturdays beginning October 16th. Kid Swim lessons will run Monday and Wednesday evenings beginning October 18th. We still have room in both programs. Register at the MRA office in the Briny Building by October 14th.

On October 19th the MRA will kick off a new program at the Paine Aquatic Center beginning at 7:00 PM. If you're looking for a great cardio workout, we'll ramp it up as we tone and strengthen our muscles during DEEP WATER AEROBICS. Pre registration and purchase of a water belt required.

Musikids

Unfortunately the MRA has had to cancel the Musikids program for this Fall. We are going to try and reschedule the program for this winter after the New Year. If you are interested in the program or have questions please contact the MRA. Thank you!!

Just a reminder that all MRA Soccer Players and Coaches are invited to the Manistee High School Soccer Game. It is tonight at 5:30pm. Admission is FREE if you wear your MRA Soccer Shirt. Come support your local Soccer Team while watching and learning from kids who were once just like you!

MUSIKIDS

Fall Swimming Lessons

Register now for Tot Swim and Swimming Lessons. Tot Swim starts October 16th - November 6th (Saturday mornings) and Swimming Lessons start October 18th - November 10th (Monday and Wednesday evenings). Call our office or stop by for more information.

Tai Chi

Tai Chi will not be meeting September 10th and 13th. Class will resume the 15th of September. We are still meeting at the 5th Avenue Pavilon weather permitting!

Coaches Wanted

Fall soccer rosters are complete but we are in need of 3 Kindergarten coaches. Call us if you are interested - 723-9274. Meetings for coaches will take place September 8th for 1/2 grade teams at 5:30 and September 9th for Kindergarten teams at 5:30 and 3/4/5 grade teams at 6:15.

Fall Soccer

Fall is just around the corner and so is our Fall Soccer program. Sign up now - registration deadline is August 25th. It is open for children age 5 through grade 5. The season will start September 18th. Stop down to our office Monday - Thursday from 10:00 - 4:00 to sign up.

ACTIVITIES NIGHT

Join other planners tonight in the commons area of Manistee High School to visit displays of over 20 different organizations. County wide groups are gathering to offer the public a chance to check out programming opportunities for kids and adults alike. Whether it's sports, dance, scouts, service organizations or academic clubs, you'll be able to chat with folks about their specific offerings between 6 and 8 PM tonight. See you there!

Sand Castle/Sculpture Contest

Sand Castle/Sand Sculpture Contest is coming up next Friday, July 23rd, from 2:30 - 4:00. Castles and sculptures will be judged on design, detail, neatness and technique. This FREE event is part of the Salmon Splash Tournament Events. You must be preregistered - sign up at our office or call or e-mail us. Bring your shovel and creativeness and join us for the fun!

Our second session of Tot Swim begins this Saturday at the Paine Aquatic Center. Swim lessons for kids age 5 and up begin July 19th. A swim assessment is scheduled for Monday, July 12 at 6:30 PM for first timers.

Tennis Camp for middle school girls begins July 13th at 1st Street Beach courts. The Kiwanis Kids Tennis Camp deadline is July 19 - camp session is the first week in August.

There is still room in the British Soccer camp - sign up online @ www.challengersports.com or call Tom at 723-0114.

Hunter Safety has plenty of room in both sessions.

Tennis for Girls

The MRA will be offering a tennis program for girls entering 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th grade interested in playing tennis. The clinic will run Tuesdays and Thursdays for 3 weeks from 10:00 to 11:30 AM, beginning July 13th, meeting at the First Street Beach courts. Register by July 2nd at the MRA office.

Soft Soccer Clinic

Soft Soccer Clinic for kids going in to kindergarten in the fall will be starting June 24th, 25th and 26th. It will be located at Duffy Field in Manistee. The cost is $15 for participating residences and $30 for non-participating residences. Sign up now at our office!

Summer Swimming

The Manistee Recreation Association still has openings for kid swim lessons. Sign up by June 14th to assure your space in Session I, running June 21 through July 1.

Slight change in Tennis Lesson Dates

The dates for MRA Women's Tennis lessons have changed slightly. The session will begin on Thursday morning, June 3, be held again Friday and then the following Monday through Wednesday at 9:30 AM. Weekdays - June 3rd through June 9th, 9:30 AM at Sands Park.

Women's Tennis Lessons

The Manistee Recreation Association is offering Tennis Lessons
for Women June 7 -11, 9:30 AM at Sands Parks, near the Manistee Middle School. Register at the MRA office, located in the Briny Building. Cost is $20.00.

Tennis Tournament

Come out on Sunday, May 16 from 2:00 to 4:00 for a Round Robin Tennis Tournament, part of HAM (Healthy Active Manistee) Week, sponsored by the Manistee Recreation Association. We'll meet at Sands Park tennis courts, near the middle school and organize based on who attends.

5K Run/Walk

Kick off Healthy Active Manistee Week with a 5K Run/Walk,
Saturday, May 15, 9:00 AM beginning at Manistee High School.
Register at the MRA office on Friday or at the school on
race morning until 8:45 AM.
All donations will be reserved for the MHS Track Fund.

MRA Machine Pitch & T-ball

The MRA baseball season sign up deadline was May 6th but we still have some room left on our machine pitch, t-ball and t-ball for tots rosters. Swing in this week and sign up. A $10.00 late fee is required.

Baseball Flyers available at Duffy Field on Saturday!

Baseball registration fliers will be available at Duffy Field (under the pavilion) this Saturday, May 1st from 8:30am-12pm. Vicki will be on hand to take payment as well. The Baseball registration deadline is Thursday, May 6th.

Tai Chi Classes Begin May 3rd

MRA will be offering Tai Chi classes every Monday, Wednesday, Friday at 9am starting May 3rd and going through the summer. Classes are free and will be held in the open office space next to the MRA office, in the Briny Building. Please join us in a relaxing and energizing way to begin your day!

Walk Tomorrow!

MRA will be holding our monthly walk tomorrow, Thursday, April 22nd. Just Meet at our office in the Briny Building at 5:30pm for a brisk walk around town. Hope to see you there!

Baseball players entering 5th Grade

MRA will also accept registrations for students entering the 5th grade. They will play with 3rd and 4th grade students in the midget league.

Now Registering for Summer Baseball !!!!!

We are now registering for Summer t-ball and midget league, students entering grades 1-4! We have also added this year a t-ball for tots league that includes students entering kindergarten or age 5. Session II Swim Lessons now FULL!

The session II swim lessons are now FULL! We will be offering a Summer swim lesson session, information should be available soon. Swim lessons are a great way to introduce your child to water skills and a great chance to get prepared for Manistee's beach season!

Swim Lesson Assessments

Note: For those who are new to MRA swim lessons and currently registered for the April session, there will be an assessment/placement session this Thursday, April 8th. Meet on the pool deck at the Paine Aquatic Center between 5-5:45pm. The assessment will take 10-15 minutes.

Office Closed for Good Friday

The MRA office will be Closed this Friday, April 2, in observance of Good Friday. We will be open next week, normal hours: Monday through Thursday 10-12p and 1-4p, Friday 10a-1p.

Walking Program

Just a reminder to those interested in getting outside and enjoying the wonderful spring weather, our next walking program will be Thursday, March 25. Time and meeting location details will be available next week. The program is free and all ages are welcome to participate!

SPRING SOCCER

The deadline to sign up for spring soccer is fast approaching! Stop by the MRA to register before March 30th. Teams for Kindergarten through 4th grade students will be put together by April 2nd. Coaches are meeting on April 6th and games will begin on April 17th if this nice weather holds out!

Time Flys!

This Thursday is our last bus trip to Crystal Mt. Hope you join us for a great night of skiing and snowboarding!

Friday is the deadline to sign up for wrestling and Manistee Soccer Club. Our office closes at 1:00 PM on Fridays.

Saturday, there will be a winter carnival for elementary kids in the high school commons, followed by open swim at the pool from 3:00 to 4:00 PM - Cost $5.00 per family, $2.00 per individual.

Weekend Fun!

The Manistee Recreation Association will be hosting a Family Swim time this Friday, February 5th from 7:00 to 8:00 PM at the Paine Aquatic Center. Cost is $10.00 for the entire family.

On Saturday, February 6th join us at the skating rink located at Sands Park for an afternoon of skating, building snowmen and sipping hot cocoa. There is no cost for the day's activities. The Teen Center has over 300 pair of skates you may pick from at no charge!

The Manistee Recreation Association will be holding its' annual meeting on Monday, January 11, 6:30 at the Music House located on Walnut Street between 3rd and 4th Street. A new slate of officers will be elected, our 2010 budget will be presented for approval and our Charles Schoedel Award recipients will be announced! We'll celebrate the past year and take a look at the year ahead!
