Walk and Swim

Candy Cane Chase
Join the MRA in a stroll through downtown Manistee on a wintry evening. Thursday, December 17 meet at the Briny, Suite D at 5:15PM.
Following the walk we will enjoy holiday goodies and something warm
to drink along with a drawing for downtown dollars.

Family Swim
Our family swim will be held Friday evening, December 18th from 7-8 PM at the Paine Aquatic Center. $10.00 for the entire family.

We're Moving!

We are moving to the Briny Building! The office will be closed December 21st - January 3rd. We will be back open on January 4th, 2010! Our office will be located on the Main floor, first office to the right when you come in the front door.

Ski/Snowboard Signup Deadline Soon!

Join the MRA on Thursday's for an evening on the slopes. Stop by the office this week to register. The office will be open Tuesday and Wednesday until 4:00 and Friday until 1:00 PM. We still have room on the bus and are hoping for at least 10 more people. This program begins in January and runs for 8 weeks. Questions - call us at 723-9274.

Thankful for Food Donations

Volunteers from the MRA were able to collect 3 boxes of food last evening to donate to the Salvation Army! Thank you to those who contributed - every little bit helps.

Collection of canned goods

Volunteers from the Manistee Recreation Association will be utilizing their monthly walk to collect canned goods and non perishable food items. All contributions will be donated to the Salvation Army food pantry. We will be visiting neighborhoods this evening between 5:30 and 6:30 PM. Thank you for your generosity in helping out our community.

Ski Deadline coming soon!

If you're planning to ski/snowboard with the MRA on Thursday nights beginning in January, sign up soon. Rates increase after Thanksgiving. All forms need to be delivered to Crystal Mt. before December 1st so stop by to complete your paperwork and make payment.

SWIM TONIGHT

HURRY - The Snow is Coming!

It's not too soon to register for the MRA Ski/Snowboard Night at Crystal Mountain. Trips begin in January every Thursday evening, leaving right after school and returning by 9:00 PM back to Manistee. Rates for lift, instruction, rental and transportation are reasonable. Call the MRA office for details. This is a great way to enjoy a winter night, cruising down the slopes with friends and sipping hot cocoa to warm up and then back out on the hills. Deadline for signing up is November 27th!

Keep next Friday evening (November 13) open for FAMILY SWIM NIGHT at the Paine Aquatic Center. The entire family can come and enjoy an evening of fun for only $10.00. Payment will be collected at the door beginning at 6:45 PM. Swim runs from 7:00 to 8:00 PM.

MRA Ski/Snowboard Night

The Manistee Recreation Association participates in Crystal Mountain's ski school program offering an evening of skiing during the week for a discounted rate. Contact our office to inquire about rental rates, lift ticket fees and transportation passes. We will need 30 people signed up to ride the bus in order to provide weekly transportation by Dial-A-Ride. This is a great opportunity to enjoy the winter weather, stay active and learn to ski or snowboard. Lessons are included with the lift ticket rates. Deadline for this program in November 27th. Sign up soon. Call the MRA for details. Our first day on the slopes is Thursday, January 7th.

Nature Walk

Join the Manistee Recreation Association for it's 3rd walk in a yearly series as we wander through the trails of the forest. Our walkers will meet at 5:30 PM on Thursday, October 22nd in the parking area across from the entrance to Orchard Beach State Park. All participants will receive an MRA Walking Program t-shirt. We'll explore the forest floor and enjoy the last of the fall colors, hopeful to spot some friendly critters as we make our way leisurely along the trails.

We'll continue our walking program next month, November 19th and then again December 17th - those months we'll bundle up and have new things to explore.

Come out for a evening of fun; splashing, playing and swimming about at the MRA Family Swim Night this Friday, October 23rd at the Paine Aquatic Center from 7:00 to 8:00 PM. What a great way to spend a cool fall Friday evening with your family. Cost is $10.00 per family payable at the door.

The Snow is Coming!

Manistee Recreation Association begins sign up for Crystal Mt. Ski & Snowboard Night. Stop by the MRA office between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM to pick up a packet of information regarding rental rates, lift fees and transportation passes. The deadline is November 27th. The program begins January 7th and continues for the next seven Thursdays, weather permitting. Those people between the age of 5 - 18, plus adults, interested in skiing or snowboarding throughout the winter with your friends on Thursday nights, sign up soon.

Great Response for Swim Lessons!

We are thrilled with the response for swim lessons for kids and adults. At this time we have maxed out in our number of registrants for kid's swimming lessons. We will, however, be happy to take your name and put you on a waiting list should an opening occur, or reserve a spot for you in our next session of swim lessons in the new year.

Musikids Starting this Wednesday

Musikids will be starting this coming Wednesday, October 7th from 2:00 - 2:30 p.m. at the Music House at 302 Walnut Street in Manistee. The six week class is $40 per child. This class is for 3 and 4 year olds and teaches them basics in music while learning fun songs and playing instruments. Sign up soon to assure your space!

MRA Board to celebrate Sandy's 22 years!

The Manistee Recreation Association was fortunate to have Sandy Saylor serving this community for 22 years! For many years Sandy worked side by side with 3 different directors before taking over the leadership of the MRA herself. For the past ten years as director, she played a major role in planning recreational activities for young and old alike throughout Manistee county. This Monday evening the MRA board of directors will be celebrating her years of commitment and dedication to this organization.

Swim with MRA

MRA is now registering for adult and kid's swim lessons. Call the Manistee Recreation Association office at 723-9274 for more information. Swim lessons begin Monday, October 19 at the Paine Aquatic Center. Classes will be offered twice a week for four weeks for those interested in learning how to swim. Class fee is $50.00 per person/$25.00 if you have a pool membership. Call soon as classes are filling up fast.

Tot Swim to begin Saturday

Our Tot Swim class will begin this Saturday, October 3 at the Paine Aquatic Center. This class will run from 11:15 to 11:45 AM in the Therapy Pool and is open to children (infant to age 3). Each child must be accompanied in the water by a parent or adult. Those interested in this class must register at the MRA office at 30 Jones Street prior to the start of class on Saturday. This is a great start to getting your child acquainted with the water!

Friday Night Swim with MRA

MRA (Manistee Recreation Association) will be offering a night of family swimming this Friday, September 25th from 7:00 to 8:00 PM. Come join us at the Paine Aquatic Center. Spend a Friday evening splashing around with family and friends. Register at the door. $10.00 per family, $5.00 if you have a family membership to the pool.

Join the MRA for FUN and FITNESS!

The Manistee Recreation Association will be walking this Thursday as the second walk in a series. Join us at 5:00 PM for our September Stride - one hour, give or take, of casual walking through town and along the Manistee River. Our walking program will begin at the MRA Office on Jones Street. Shirts will given out to the first 10 participants!

At 7:30 PM that same evening, Thursday, September 24, the Manistee Recreation Association will host the beginning class in Women's Self Defense to be held at Casman Academy. Call the MRA office to register for self defense.

Women's Self Defense Class Starts Tonight

Women's Self Defense Class starts tonight. It's not too late to sign up. Come down to our office and register. Office hours are 10:00 - 4:00. The class starts 7:30 - 8:30 p.m at Casman Academy. It is $40 for participating residences and $50 for non-participating for the six week class. We hope to see you.

Soccer to Begin this Saturday!

The MRA fall soccer program will begin games this Saturday at Duffy Field and at the Onekama Baseball/Softball complex. Soccer games for 1st and 2nd grade students begin at 9:00 AM. 3rd and 4th grade teams start at 10:00 AM and Kindergarten soccer teams begin at noon. Come and cheer on your son/daughter, grandchild, neighbor or friend!

Self Defense offered by MRA

The Manistee Recreation Association will be offering a 6 week class in Self Defense for Women beginning this Thursday, September 17, from 7:30 to 8:30 PM at Casman Academy. MRA registering for fall programs

The Manistee Recreation Association is currently accepting registrations for fall programs. Tai Chi is meeting on M/W/F, 9:00 AM at the 5th Avenue Beach House until September 30th. Women's Self Defense begins September 17.
The MRA September Stride (part of our monthly walking program) will take place on Thursday, September 24th and MRA Family Swim will be from 7:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday, September 25th at the Paine Aquatic Center.

Manistee Recreation Association Now Registering for Tai Chi Classes

MRA is now registering for Tai Chi classes. Classes will start September 9th and run through September 30th. It will be held at the 5th Avenue Beach Pavilion in Manistee. Classes are free and any age is welcome.

MRA still registering for fall soccer. It's not too late!

Manistee Recreation Association will be taking registrations for fall soccer through Tuesday, September 8th. The office will be open that day until 4:00 PM for those that wish to register. Fall soccer games will begin the week of September 14th. Stop by 30 Jones Street to sign up for soccer.
